Over the weekend, my Mom’s best friend passed away. I was in utter disbelief when she told me, and I just didn’t know what to think. He was just at my grandmother’s house for dinner two short months ago. I couldn’t even build up the courage to tell my brother, we were so close with him as children but as we grew older slowly drifted. We no longer felt like visiting his house to watch movies and have dinner because we both had our own things going on. My mom told me while I was driving home, I tried to keep my composure, but I lost it. It still doesn’t seem quite real to me. When my mom told my brother he cried, he couldn’t even talk. Later in the week, I received an email from Brian’s mother. She said they were looking for a home for one of his cats, Theo. My heart was breaking. I adored Theo as a child, every time Brian would call to talk to my mom I would ask him how Theo was. He would always tell me that he was throwing a party, or taking rides on the ceiling fan, I would giggle and tell him that cats could not do those things. I was in no way hesitant to say I would take him. I was looking on his facebook (which is really odd when you know they aren’t here anymore) and I was browsing threw his photos and I came across this one. The caption underneath said “Theo, my pride and joy.” A lump quickly formed in my throat and a tear came to my eye. I hope that I can give Theo a home like he did, he loved him so much. I miss Brian already, and I am so heartbroken for my mother and his family. RIP.
